Rev. Charles F. Holm (Chuck) became Pastor of the First Congregational Church of River Edge on March 1, 2010.
Rev. Holm, a native of Michigan, is an alumnus of Wayne State University, Detroit, and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey. He is a dual minister-member of both the United Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church (USA). He has served congregations in New York State, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Rev. Holm is married to Gloria J. (Prentice) Holm. They have a daughter, Erin Elizabeth, who lives in New Jersey, with her husband, Tim.
Rev. Holm says:
About faith: “I believe that faith itself is a gift from God, it is intensely personal, and also inseparable from how we act as individuals and as a believing community. I believe God creates and sustains us, acts in history, and owns the future.”
About the Church: “I believe the Church is the Community of Believers, and the most visible sign of God’s presence. God calls and empowers the church to share its faith with a broken world, to call others into faithful life, and to serve following Jesus’ example. We, the Church, are called to use all the gifts and resources available to us to learn more of God, and to share our knowing with the world.”
About the Church in the world: “I believe the church is in the world to realize the teachings of Jesus in all areas of human history. The Gospel is both personal and social. I believe the Church ought to be the conscience of the community, lending support to improve living, working and social conditions. The goal of the Church’s witness in society ought to be reconciliation in all areas of human existence.”
