A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

As the Pastor of the First Congregational Church of River Edge, I encourage you to consider participation in this vital and exciting congregation. We are a community seeking to come to grips with the issues and challenges of our day in the light of our faith. But, most of all, First Congregational Church, is a community of persons striving to live out the acceptance, the compassion, the love, and the justice of the Christian faith in today’s world.

If you are looking for a faith community which will welcome you, provide you opportunities to serve others, as well as a community which will invite you to join in experiences that will nurture your faith and personal growth, we at First Congregational Church urge you to consider participation in this congregation. We welcome your inquiries, your visits, and your regular fellowship with us in this important work.

Peace,

Rev. Charles F. Holm

Welcome to

First Congregational Church

of River Edge

We are a congregation of United Church of Christ made up of members from many different backgrounds. Our worship services include a wide variety of music and liturgy from many traditions. We have a strong Christian Education program for children and adults, a vibrant music program which includes several vocal and handbell choirs, and sermons which connect our busy, modern lives with the ancient wisdom of the Bible.

Our church members are active in ministry to the community and our building serves as home for numerous groups such as Girl Scout troops, 12-step programs, Japanese language/culture school, a community nursery and kindergarten enrichment program, a Bag-Pipe band and a children's theatre program.  We also share our space with the River Dell Korean Baptist Church.

Our mission is to worship God, care for one another, and witness to Jesus Christ in our community and the world.

Our Vision

We seek to be a dynamic community of faith committed to spiritual growth, following Christ’s example and God’s Word.  Respecting our past and recognizing today’s challenges, we move forward with diverse worship, education, mission and compassionate care for all.

Our "Safe Church" Policy:

First Congregational Church of River Edge works to make sure the church is a safe place for everyone!  Our faith calls us to have the  most respect for one another.  Our church has adopted a “Safe     Church”  policy  concerning abuse and harassment prevention.  Approved in 2010, the policy affects members and employees of the congregation.  Those wishing to know more, may obtain a copy of the congregation’s “Trust With Care” booklet through the Church Office.  We at First  Congregational Church, River Edge are committed to working to make sure the church  is a safe place for everyone!

CONGREGATION CALLS

MINISTER OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

On Sunday, April 22, at a special Congregational Meeting, the members of the First Congregational Church of River Edge voted to call Hyo-Jung Kim of River Vale as Minister of Christian Education.

Hyo-Jung will begin her service with us on May 12. She is currently serving as Associate Pastor – responsible for ministry for children and youth – at the First Congregational Church in Haworth.

Hyo-Jung was graduated from Boston College (Massachusetts) with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. She has graduate degrees in religion and education from Yale Divinity School and Harvard Graduate School of Education.
